My focus is quite a bit on trauma and how it affects us. I have always believed that what happens to us in our childhoods and in our early relationships sets us on a path and affects a lot of the way we think and react to things. I am very sensitive to the fact that talking about our trauma(s) can be very difficult and even re-traumatizing. I now offer EMDR and other related techniques that are not only proven by research to be helpful with PTSD, but has also been shown to help with other mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. It has helped many of my current and former clients feel much better in a much shorter time than other approaches have in the past.
It is important to start each new therapeutic relationship by building trust and a strong therapeutic alliance. I often help clients understand deeper meanings and reasons for the current issues they are struggling with by exploring childhood experiences and family of origin dynamics. I believe that many symptoms, such as anxiety and depression, and dysfunctional relational patterns can be traced back to early experiences. I work primarily with individuals dealing with PTSD (and other trauma related symptoms), anxiety, depression, bipolar, life changes and stresses, and addiction.

I work with clients at their own pace to guide them through a better understanding of their issues and concerns while challenging them to take steps for an improved way of living. I take a predominantly psychodynamic approach that focuses on discovering and exploring past experiences, inner thought processes, and relationship patterns to relieve and repair core personal issues. Additionally, I take a more active and teaching role when certain symptoms or behaviors require the instruction and practice of new skills.
I provide individual therapy to adolescents and adults, couples therapy, and group therapy. I primarily work with individuals with depression, anxiety, or relational issues. However, my experience and training in mental health have been varied to include successful treatment of those with behavioral problems, grief, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.
Therapy will focus on your goals and areas of need, and length of treatment will be a collaborative decision based on those goals and needs. Whether you are coming to therapy for personal growth or specific concerns, starting our relationship by creating a supportive and caring environment is of utmost importance to me. Through our work together, I hope to help replace suffering and distress with relief and a new outlook on life.
I accept some insurance and offer therapy on a sliding fee scale so that it can be affordable for you. Please contact me with your questions.
